Pirate women take runner-up at Coast Classic Invitational

COSTA MESA -- With nine top-three performances, the Orange Coast College women's track and field team finished second overall with 91.5 points on Friday at the 2018 Coast Classic Invitational.

Palomar (112 points) topped the field, while OCC finished ahead of Fullerton College (87), Vanguard University (74), Glendale (65), Long Beach City (55), Southwestern (49.5), Santa Monica (40), Antelope Valley (36), Soka University (21) and Maramount (2).

OCC thrower specialist Raelynn Denson topped the field in the javelin throw with a winning mark of 85-feet, 4-inches, over four feet further than the runner-up throw from Vanguard University (81-0).

Denson earned more points for the Pirates in the shot put, finishing third with a throw of 27-2 1/2.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the foursome of Paige Fults, Cassandra Guillen, Sophia Johnson and Jordyn Martin earned a second-place time of 55.67 seconds.

On the individual side, Fults picked up a pair of third-place times in the 100 (13.22) and the 200 (27.44).

OCC hurdler Precious Kilburg took care of business and performed well in her two events, finishing third in the 100 hurdles (19.45) as well as the 400 hurdles (1:13.46).

In the long jump, Sophia Johnson picked up a third-place mark of 13-3 1/4.

The Pirates will return to the OCC Track Complex on Friday when they host this week's Orange Empire Conference tri-meet, beginning at 11 a.m.
