Pirates roll with two wins at Cerritos tournament

NORWALK -- It was a successful Friday for the Orange Coast College women's water polo team as the Pirates rolled past Citrus (22-8) and Cerritos (17-5) at the Cerritos College Mini Tournament.

In the opener against the Owls, OCC (14-2) found its offensive success from several shooters, including Natalia Stanard, who led the way with six goals. Ella Wisdom added four goals, while Destiny Hernandez added three. Jillian Duwe has a solid, all-around performance in the opener with two goals, four assists and a team-best five steals.

The goalie tandem of Annabelle Sherman and Isabella Goodrow came through with 10 saves.

In the nightcap against the host Falcons, Coast jumped out to a 10-3 first-half lead and never allowed the hosts to get back into the contest the rest of the way.

Stanard and Grace Brossa each had four goals for the Pirates, while nine other OCC teammates tossed in one goal each.

Once again, it was split duties in net for the Pirates as Sherman and Goodrow combined for 12 saves.

Coast will have next week away from competition but will return to Orange Empire Conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at home, against Cypress, beginning at 3 p.m.
