Pirates run strong in final tune-up

FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College women's cross country made the most of Friday's final tune-up and posted strong times at the 2013 Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational.

Running against some of the top four-year university teams in the region, OCC placed fourth overall with 101 points, behind UCLA (31 points), San Diego State (56 points) and the Superpride club team (63 points). Coast finished ahead of Pepperdine (130), UNLV (145), UC Irvine (171), UC San Diego (243), Cal State Fullerton (253) and UC Santa Barbara (298).

Karen Silvas was OCC's top runner, finishing second among all attached runners with a 5K time of 17 minutes, 44.3 seconds. Teammate Guadalupe Cantoran also cracked the top-20 with a 17th-place time of 18:29.3.

Other point-producing performances for the Pirates include Raeanna Cortez (21st, 18.38.7), Leanne Allen (26th, 18:50.9) and Kristie Son (35th, 19:17.6).

Other solid times for the Pirates were turned in by Allison Nagel (19:20.1), Mariah Chapin (19:46.1) and Summer Ordaz (20:40.1).

OCC will begin to begin its postseason on Friday at the Orange Empire Conference Championshps, held at Irvine Park in Orange, beginning at 9 a.m.
