Pirates take fifth overall at Vanguard Invitational

FOUNTAIN VALLEY -- The Orange Coast College women's cross country team took fifth overall at the 27th annual Vanguard University Cross Country Invitational, held on Friday at Mile Square Park.

Sophomore Jennilee Reyes paved the way for the Pirates as she finished fourth overall in the 54-runner field with a time of 18 minutes, 41.8 seconds. 

Three other Pirate runners -- Mary Curran (20:25.1), Michelle Morgan (20:27.8) and Elizabeth Diaz Cortes (21:49.8) -- cracked the top-30 for the Pirates, while teammates Spenser Vigeland (22:46.4) and Yurida Perez (24:20.6) also turned in solid times on the 5K course.

Host Vanguard University (52 points) won the overall team spot, followed by Cal State Los Angeles (56), Point Loma Nazerene (62), Soka University (80) and the Pirates (90) finished fifth.

Coast will return to action on Friday at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational, beginning at 5 p.m.
