Pirate women take third at OEC Championships

MISSION VIEJO -- A pair of top-10 times helped propel the Orange Coast College women's cross country team to a third-place team finish at the 2017 Orange Empire Conference Cross Country Championships, held at Oso Viejo Park on Thursday.

Sophomore Jennilee Reyes was the top Pirate performer on the 5K course and finished second overall with a time of 19 minutes, 5.59 seconds, just behind Riverside City College's Sarah Hollis (18:25.83).

Freshman teammate Mary Curran needed a sprint to the finish to hold off a pair of competitors and place eighth with a time of 20:21.3, just ahead of Saddleback's Sierra Pilarski (20:21.6) and Santa Ana's Andrea Anaya (20:23.36).

Other point earners for the Pirates included a 19th-place time from Michelle Morgan (21:26.82), a 24th-place finish from Elizabeth Diaz Cortes (22:09.53) and a 29th-place finish from Spenser Vigeland (22:51.88). OCC freshman Yuridia Perez also performed well with a strong time of 25:01.03.

The Pirates finished with a team score of 75 points, trailing only Riverside (29) and Saddleback (67) for the top team spot at the meet. Fullerton (93) finished fourth overall, followed by Santa Ana (98) and Golden West (157).
