Pirate beach volleyballers earn split against Glendale, Rio Hondo

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team picked up a solid 5-0 win over Glendale College before falling, 3-2, to Rio Hondo in a three-team matchup on Friday at the Huntington Beach/Newland beach volleyball courts.

In the win over the Vaqueros, the Pirates (1-3) had straight-set wins from the teams of Megan Ritchie and Jadelyn Forgiarini (21-7, 21-5), Measha Lindstrand and Sierra Lim (21-9, 21-11), Diana Che and Tayler Jaramillo (21-14, 21-19) and Amanda Kiralla and Hayley Ellingsen (21-5, 21-15). OCC's fifth point came by way of forfeit. 

Also in an exhibition match, the team of Keika Yoshizumi and Alex Hayes, topped a duo from Santa Ana College, 21-17, 21-14.

In the afternoon finale against the Roadrunners, the teams of Ritchie/Forgiarini (21-15, 21-19) and Kiralla/Ellingsen (21-15, 21-14) picked up wins, but the Roadrunners pulled out a hard-fought, three-set match at No. 3 to break the 2-2 tie.

OCC will play at El Camino College on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
