Forgiarini, Ritchie advance to Beach Volleyball State Championships!
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Orange Coast College beach volleyball standouts Jadelyn Forgiarini and Megan Ritchie have earned a trip to next week's California Community College Athletic Association Beach Volleyball State Championships after their outstanding play at the Orange Empire Conference Championships on Friday at Huntington State Beach.
The Beach Volleyball State Championship will take place on May 6-7 at West Valley College in Saratoga.
Forgiarini and Ritchie earned the trip north after notching a pair of wins and earning a top-eight spot in the conference. Eight pairs of teams from each of the four conferences will make up the 32-team, single-elimination tournament.
In their first match, Forgiarini/Ritchie topped Riverside City College's Brianna Fonseca and Hailey Krewson, 21-14, 21-19, to adance to the Round of 16.
There, OCC's dynamic duo made quick work of Cypress College's Sam Warren and Paige Buchanan, winning the match, 21-17, 21-12, to qualify for the State Championships.
In other OCC matches, Measha Lindstrad and Sierra Lim fell just short with a two-set loss to Santa Ana's Viridiana Serrano and Mikelle Taylor, 21-18, 21-15. The Pirate duo won their first match 21-13, 21-16 over Fullerton's Kristine Perez and Katherine Serna.
Keika Yoshizumi and Amanda Kiralla picked up a 21-14, 12-21, 15-9 win over Keara O'Brien-Pol and Stevie Wenzel from Saddleback before falling to Golden West's Jazmine Gonzalez and Kate Stanjevich, 21-13, 21-15.
