Warriors earn Memorial Cup with 11-7 win over Pirates

COSTA MESA -- It was a tough home opener for the Orange Coast College baseball team as an elusive strike zone proved to be the difference as the Pirates fell 11-7 to visiting El Camino on Saturday at John Altobelli Ballpark.

Following Friday's well-pitched game (won by the Warriors, 3-1), Coast struggled to find any sort of rhythm on the mound and El Camino took advantage, winning the game and taking back the Memorial Cup trophy for taking the first two games of this best-of-three series.

Coast held the Warriors to just seven hits, but 12 walks and three hit batsmen helped supplement the selective contact made by ECC.

Sebastian Moore hit a solo home run in the first and went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI for the Pirates. Owen Wessel came in midway through the game and went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a pair of stellar catches in left field. Koby Williams and Dylan Krause each drove in two runs as well, but the Pirate bats struggled to get that "big hit" when they needed it the most. Coast stranded 13 runners on base, while four of ECC's hits produced seven runs.

Coast looks to avoid the sweep on Tuesday at ECC, beginning at 1 p.m. OCC's next home game will take place on Thursday (weather permitting) against Cuesta, also at 1 p.m.
