Pirates topped by Gauchos

COSTA MESA -- It was a long night at the office for the Orange Coast College football team as the Pirates fell to visiting Saddleback College, 58-7, on Saturday night at LeBard Stadium.

The Gauchos (7-0, 2-0), one of three teams unbeaten heading into Saturday's action and ranked third in the most recent state polls, jumped out to a 30-0 lead early in the second quarter and never looked back. 

OCC's lone score of the game came late in the second quarter when the Pirates (1-6, 0-2) mounted a 15-play, 82-yard drive that was capped off with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Adam Carr to Aaron Fletcher. Carr completed 18 of 37 passes for 136 yards, while Edwin LaCross and Elijah Willams each caught five passes for a combined 88 yards.

On defense, Tavita Crisp was the leading tackler with 11 total, including eight solo and two tackles for loss, while Zeke Alleman added eight tackles, including six solo.

Saddleback quarterback Chance Nolan threw for 335 yards and five touchdowns on 23-of-31 passing, while receiver Cole Harrity caught a team-best six passes for 139 yards and two TDs.

OCC will return to action on Saturday at home against Grossmont for Sophomore Night, beginning at 6 p.m.
