No home cooking for Pirates in OT loss to Miramar

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team lost a late lead in regulation time and dropped a 75-67 overtime decision to visiting Miramar College on Friday night inside the Peterson Gym.

The Pirates (0-3) carried a 61-59 lead over the Jets (2-2) with under 30 seconds left after Brad Buchignani converted a 3-point play after being fouled on a made lay-up.

Miramar took the ball down and worked for a final shot. With under six seconds left, the ball rolled free and both teams battled to gain possession. Finally, with three seconds left, Coast grabbed the ball and called timeout.

Unfortunately for the Pirates, they were out of timeouts and were assessed a technical foul. Miramar's Drew Peterson calmly stepped up and nailed both free throws, sending the game into overtime, where the Jets outscored the Pirates 14-6. Coast struggled in the extra period, going just 1-of-9 from the floor.

Deion Page led Coast with 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals, while DeAndre Page added 16 points and seven boards.

For the Jets, Daniel Hebert had 19 points, Mike Jones added 17 points and Marcus McMorris chipped in 10.

It was a back-and-forth battle night for both teams as neither club carried a lead bigger than six points all night.

The Pirates' perimeter shooting struggled throughout the evening, hitting only 4-of-29 from 3-point range (13.8 percent). Coast did manage a solid night from the free-throw line, hitting 23-of-30 (76.7 percent) from the line.

Coast will now hit the road for the rest of the nonconference portion of the schedule, starting with a matchup at Palomar College on Thursday, beginning at 5 p.m.
