Marquez's hat trick lifts Pirates past Norco, 5-0

COSTA MESA -- Peter Marquez notched a first-period hat trick to lead the Orange Coast College men's soccer team to a 5-0 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Norco College on Tuesday at the OCC Soccer Complex.

Marquez scored all three goals in the first 25 minutes of play as the Pirates (6-8-1, 5-4-0 in OEC) rolled all over the Mustangs (3-10-2, 1-7-1) right from the opening whistle and never let up.

In the second half of playTaylor Kane made a nice move to get past a Norco defender, then sent a perfect cross pass to teammate Colton Goodness, who nailed a perfect header into the back of the net in the game's 58th minute, to put the Pirates ahead, 4-0.

The Mustangs were their own worst enemy down the stretch as backup goaltender Ramon Parra had hit pocket picked by OCC forward Cobi Biefield, who easily found the back of the open net in the 86th minute to close out the scoring.

The goalie tandem of Ryan Brown and Osiel Porcayo combined for the shutout and five saves for the Pirates.

Coast returns to action on Friday at Irvine Valley, beginning at 3 p.m. OCC's next home match will be on Tuesday against Santa Ana, also at 3 p.m.
