Brown, Marquez, O'Connor earn first-team, all-conference honors

COSTA MESA -- Three members of the Orange Coast College men's soccer team earned a spot on this year's first-team, All-Orange Empire team, as voted on by the conference's head coaches at their annual postseason meeting.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Brown, sophomore defender Ty O'Connor and freshman forward Peter Marquez were named to this year's first team, while sophomore midfielder Marco Pineda and freshman defender Taylor Kane earned second-team honors.

Brown (Fountain Valley HS) was OCC's everyday goalkeeper and he was a steady as any keeper in the conference. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Brown earned 10 wins, posted five shutouts and a 1.12 goals-against average with 105 saves in 20 games.

O'Connor (Edison HS), who came to Coast after one year at BYU-Hawaii, was the catalyst of a Pirate defense which allowed just 22 goals all season long. The Pirates held the opposition to one goal or less in 14 of their 20 games played this year.

Marquez (Costa Mesa HS) was OCC's top point scorer with seven goals and six assists (20 points). He had a five-point game (two goals, one assist) against Santiago Canyon on Sept. 29 and a four-point result (two goals) against Cypress on Oct. 13.

Pineda had a goal and joined O'Connor as a leader on the back end of the OCC lineup, as did Kane, who recorded four goals and three assists (11 points) along the way.
