Pirates settle for 2-2 draw at Chaffey

RANCHO CUCAMONGA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw against host Chaffey College on Friday in the 2016 season opener for both teams.

The Pirates wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Nick Cardenas took a nice pass from Peter Marquez and beat the Panthers' defense in the second minute of the match, putting OCC ahead, 1-0.

Just 10 minutes later, Michael Hunter-Woffo took a Taylor Kane pass and found the back of the net, putting Coast up, 2-0 in the 12th minute.

But the Panthers responded with goals by Geovanny Lopez in the 18th minute and Johnathan Umana in the 80th minute to square the match. OCC could not regain the lead in the final minutes and both teams walked off with a point each.

OCC netminder Osiel Porcayo finished with seven saves, while Chaffey goalkeeper Jafet Chaves notched four saves.

The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday night against Long Beach City College at 7 p.m. at OCC's Dick Tucker Field.
