Pirates battle Lasers to scoreless draw

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team has been fit to be tied this week as the Pirates battled a pair of top OEC teams to 0-0 draws this week at the OCC Soccer Complex.

On Tuesday, Coast went the distance with Fullerton and on Friday, the Pirates took on second-place Irvine Valley and fought the Lasers to a 0-0 draw.

Against the Lasers (13-4-1, 8-2-1 in Orange Empire Conference), the Pirates (5-6-5, 3-4-4) played some of the best soccer of the season and managed to earn plenty of scoring opportunities, but just couldn't convert.

The biggest opportunity for Coast came in the 79th minute when a nicely-place cross-pass found its way to sophomore Michael Hunter-Wofford, but the midfielder sent his re-direct just over the crossbar of the wide-open net.

The Lasers came right back and had an anxious moment in front of the Coast goal, but OCC goalkeeper Osiel Porcayo (five saves) came up big and held his ground, keeping the ball out of is goal.

IVC netminder Blake Sigler also made the big save when he had to and finished with seven stops.

The Pirates will wrap up the regular season with three straight road matchups, starting on Tuesday, at Cypress, beginning at 3 p.m.
