Pirates dominate Saddleback, Santiago Canyon in three-way meet

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's track team took care of business on Friday at the season-opening tri-meet against Saddleback and Santiago Canyon, held at OCC.

The Pirates posted victories over the Hawks (151-3) and Saddleback (116.5-37.5) to open Orange Empire Conference action for 2014.

Coast posted victories in all but four events and notched 1-2-3 finishes in seven different events.

In the sprints, Demauria Stewart won both the 100 meters (11.48 seconds) as well as the 200 (23.38).

Gregory Warner notched a win in the 400 (51.4), while Luis Morales claimed the top spot in both the 800 (1:58.45) and 1,500 (4:01.05).

In the 3,000, Lucio Ramirez was OCC's top runner, crossing the finish line with a time of 9:18.08.

Winston Lawson won the 110 hurdles (15.8), while teammate Bryson Crawford claimed the top prize in the 400 hurdles (57.62). Lawson also took home the win in the high hump with a mark of 6 feet, 2 3/4 inches.

The Pirates ran alone in the 4x100 relay and notched a time of 43.42, while the 4x400 relay topped the field with a 3:27.27.

In the pole vault, OCC's Tyler Armhein cleared 13 6 1/4 to win the event, while Ryan Collier claimed the top spot in the long jump (22-4 1/2). Collier also showed his talents in the triple jump with a winning mark of 42-10 3/4.

OCC will host Cuyamaca and El Camino in a nonconference tri-meet on Friday, beginning at 11 a.m.
