Pirates top them all at the Coast Classic Invitational

COSTA MESA -- In the 10-team, Coast Classic Track Invitational, it was the host OCC Pirates who came out on top during Friday's annual meet.

The Pirates posted 168 points to earn the team victory, followed by El Camino (119.83), Glendale (86.50), Cuyamaca (83) and Santa Barbara (54.33).

Demauria Stewart was one of several top performances for the Pirates as he won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.2 seconds, edging out Cuyamaca's Wes Falk (11.21) and Santa Monica's Shacor Hamilton (11.25).

In the 1,500, OCC's Luis Morales claimed the top spot with a time of 3:54.16, nearly two seconds ahead of Vanguard University's Josh Espinoza (3:56.13).

Morales made it 2-for-2 as he led a 1-2-3 finish for the Pirates in the 5,000 meters with a winning time of 15:08.51, followed by teammates Brandon Ferguson (15:15.37) and Lucio Ramirez (15:19.82). El Camino's Tomas Snur (15:50.46) was a distant fourth.

Standout thrower Brawley Osborne cleared the field in the hammer throw with a mark of 148 feet, 2 1/2 inches. He also claimed second place in the shot put (40-2 1/4).

Top-three performances for the Pirates included Bryson Crawford in the 400 hurdles (2nd, 56.79) and the long jump (2nd, 22-6 1/4), Wyatt Dobrick in the high jump (3rd, 5-10 3/4) and long jump (3rd, 22-4 1/4), Andrew Taylor in the pole vault (3rd, 14-7 1/2), Chris Henderson in the triple jump (3rd, 43-7 1/2), Scott DeCau in the discus (2nd, 135-9 1/2).

Coast will head to Mt. San Antonio for the two-day SoCal Multi-Event Championships, which kick off on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
