Pirates top El Camino, Cuyamaca in tri-meet

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team slipped past El Camino and toppled Cuyamaca on Friday in a nonconference tri-meet held at OCC.

Coast posted an 83-80 win over the Warriors and a 122.5-40.5 win over Cuyamaca, with several Pirates athletes contributing to the winning cause.

In the 100, Demauria Stewart edged out Cuyamaca's Alexander Smith to win with a time of 11.12 seconds, just .02 seconds ahead of Smith.

Luis Morales dominated the field in the 1,500 to win with a time of 3:56.02, over nine seconds ahead of anyone else.

It was a pair of victorious Pirates in the hurdle events as Winston Lawson won the 110 high hurdles (15.65), while Bryson Crawford took the top spot in the 400 hurdles (56.83). Lawson also showed is stuff in the high jump, winning with a mark of 6-feet, 4-inches.

Connor Garcia survived the 3,000 steeplechase with a winning time of 10:14.97, just under seven seconds ahead of OCC teammate Christopher Harlan (10:21.14).

Coast will return to Orange Empire Conference action with a tri-meet at Fullerton College against the Hornets and the Golden West College Rustlers on Friday, beginning at 12 p.m.
