Pirate men capture top spot at 2019 Coast Classic Invitational

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team took the top spot among 10 teams at the 2019 Coast Classic Invitational on Friday at the newly named Jim McIlwain Track and Field Complex.

With three first-place and several top-three performances, the Pirates topped the field with 139 points, followed by Glendale College (125.50), Santa Monica City College (98) and Long Beach City College (85.50).

Among the victorious Pirates included pole vaulter Ryan Fegan, who blew away the field with a winning mark of 15-feet, 6 1/4 inches, nearly TWO FEET higher than the next-best mark of 13-8 1/4 set by Saddleback's Martin Erian.

Another impressive OCC performance came in the 800, where Myles Aguilar pulled away from the pack and took first place overall with a time of 1 minute, 59.54 seconds, over four full seconds faster than runner-up Evan Ridgeway of Long Beach City College (2:03.57).

In the 1,500, Esteban Prado stayed with the leader of the race, then, used a strong final 300 meters to take over the lead and win with a time of 4:11.53.

In the 110 hurdles, the duo of Scott Ly (17.06) and Ian Koontz (17.18) finished second and third, respectively, for the Pirates against some of the top hurdlers in the area.

It was another 2-3 finish for the Pirates in the long jump as Bradley Bryant took the runner-up spot with a jump of 20-4 1/4, while teammate Isaiah Bradley was close behind with a third-place jump of 20-3.

Thrower standout Brendan Jordahl picked up a pair of top-three marks for the Pirates, taking second in the shot put (43-10 3/4) and third in the hammer throw (148-11).

In the discus throw, Riden Leong notched a solid third-place performance with a throw of 126-9.

OCC will head to El Camino College for the ECC Invitational on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
