Pirate men finish runner-up at OEC Championships

SANTA ANA -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team earned a 102 points and finished second overall at the 2019 Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships, hosted by Santa Ana College, on Friday.

Pirate freshman Isaiah Galloway earned himself an OEC title in the triple jump, nailing his fifth attempt of the afternoon with a jump of 45-feet, 1-inch. Riverside's Christian Gbla came up close on his final jump, but had to settle for the silver medal with a jump of 44-9.

In the pole vault, sophomore Ryan Fegan finished second overall with a height of 14-5 1/4, while teammates Timothy Weaver and Tyler Young finished fifth with a mark of 12-11 1/2.

Another runner-up performance came from the 4x100 relay team where the foursome of Galloway, Justin Lind, Jonah Slack and Javier Molina placed second with a time of 43.18.

It was a 3-4-5 finish for the Pirates in the javelin throw, led by freshman Yuki Ishida (154-5), followed by Drew Dobbs (147-4) and Noah Kilburg (136-10).

Other top-five performances for the Pirates were turned in by Myles Aguilar in the 800 (3rd, 1:58) and 1,500 (4th, 4:10.17), Adam Angel in the 1,500 (5th, 4:10.61), Justin Dominguez in the 10,000 (4th, 36:23.02), Young in the 400 hurdles (5th, 57.64), Ian Koontz and Bradley Bryant in the high jump (T-5th, 5-10 3/4) and Bryant in the long jump (5th, 21-9).

Coast will head out to Riverside City College for the 2019 Southern California Regionals, with the prelims set for Friday at 10 a.m. and the finals set for Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m.
