Ishida, Galloway, Fegan headed to CCCAA State Meet!

Ishida, Galloway, Fegan headed to CCCAA State Meet!

RIVERSIDE -- After months of hard work and determination, three members of the Orange Coast College men's track and field team will be earning a trip to this week's California Community College Athletic Association State Meet after their qualifying performances at last week's Southern California Regional Finals, hosted by Riverside City College.

Against some of the very best athletes in Southern California, OCC's Ryan Fegan, Yuki Ishida and Isaiah Galloway all earned top-eight finishes at Regionals and will be heading up to the College of San Mateo this Friday and Saturday for a chance at a state title in their events.

Fegan, a standout pole vaulter for the Pirates all season long, earned a State Finals spot after finishing third overall with a mark of 15-feet, 1-inch. After passing on the first three marks, Fegan got into some trouble at 14-7 1/4, but after two misses, he cleared the bar to qualify for the next mark at 15-1. After one miss, Fegan again cleared the bar to earn his top-three spot. Only Cuesta's Jimmy Escobar (15-7) and Riverside's Tyler Harper (15-1, fewer attempts) finished higher that Fegan in all of Southern California.

The same can be said of Ishida in the javelin throw. With just one throw left and a previous-best of 155-7 1/2 on his ledger, the OCC freshman put it all together for his last attempt and nailed a throw of 172-8, which catapulted him up to third place, trailing only Riverside's Marcos Gonzalez (182-8) and Patrick Maria (173-1).

For Galloway, his speciality is the triple jump and the Pirate freshman nailed his third jump of the day for a distance of 45-5 1/4 which was good enough for seventh place in the Regional. Cerritos' Titus Houston earned the top mark in the event with a jump of 48-1 1/4.
