
Pirates second overall in early stages of OEC Track Finals
COSTA MESA -- With just a handful of final results, the Orange Coast College men's track and field team is in second place at the 2025 Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships, hosted by Orange Coast College.
Through six events, including the decathlon, the Pirates have 78 points, trailing only Riverside City College (135). Saddleback is a distant third with 19 points, followed by Fullerton (13) and Santa Ana (12).

With the majority events still in the prelim stages, there were some finals to announce.
It was a 1-2 finish for the Pirates in the javelin throw, led by Deuce Frierson, who's throw of 165-4 was tops among all OEC competitors. Pirate teammate Brendan Clark earned the silver with a throw of 160-2, with RCC's James Henderon a distant third at 145-10.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where OCC's Chance Callinan earned a strong second-place showing with a time of 9:56.23, joining RCC's Kailil O'Brien as the only sub-10-minute finishers of the event.
Fellow distance specialist, Caden Guardino overcame a tough field and a warm afternoon to finish second overall in the 10,000 with a time of 32:42.65.
It was a 2-3 finish in the hammer throw as Sean Artest took runner-up with a throw of 151-feet, 5-inches, followed by OCC teammate Mark Lutke, who earned the bronze with a throw of 148-0.
In the high jump, Jeremiah Wiley picked up a third-place spot on the podium with a jump of 6-2 3/4, two inches off of the top jump, turned in by RCC's Bryson Willimson and Saddleback's Griffin Schwab.
The remaining finals of the 2025 OEC Championships will take place on Saturday at OCC, beginning at 9 a.m. with the field events and 1 p.m. for the running events.
