Pirates open season with sweep over Moorpark
MOORPARK -- The Orange Coast College men's volleyball team opened the 2013 season with a bang, sweeping past host Moorpark College, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 on Wednesday night.
Johannes Brink led the Pirates with 20 kills, including seven from the back row, while Cody Martin added 15 kills and four digs and Ty Hutchins chipped in 13 kills and a pair of aces.
Liberos Scott Enos and Blake Auerbach combined for 14 digs, while setter Brendan Duff dished ouf 41 assists.
After committing nine hitting errors in the first set, the Pirates tightened things up and hit just 11 in the second and third sets combined.
OCC will return to action on Thursday at Santa Barbara City College, beginning at 6 p.m. Coast's home opener will take place on Tuesday against El Camino College, also at 6 p.m.
