Pirates fall to Grossmont in four

EL CAJON -- The playoffs have started a few days early for the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team, thanks to Wednesday night's four-set loss at Grossmont College, 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 27-25.

The loss for OCC (11-6, 7-4) sets up a winner-moves-on showdown at Irvine Valley College (13-4, 7-4) on Friday night (6 p.m.) for third place in the Pacific Coast Conference and a spot in the Southern California Regional playoffs.

Friday's OCC-IVC winner will take on Long Beach City College on Tuesday, while the loser will have to wait until 2014 for their next match.

Against the Griffins, Johannes Brink led the way with 21 kills and six digs, while Ty Hutchins added 12 kills. Cody Martin led the way with 12 digs to go along with 10 kills, while Austin Bagby posted a .400 hitting percentage with 10 kills and five blocks.

Brendan Duff dished out 51 assists and added nine digs, while Scott Enos picked up 11 digs of his own.

Jorge Cabrera had 20 kills to lead Grossmont (12-6, 10-2), while Davis Anderson and Chet Radish combined for 25 kills and 29 digs and Garrett Adleman contributed 55 assists.
