Pirates fall in OT to Grossmont, 13-12

NORWALK -- The 2013 season came to a bitter end for the Orange Coast College men's water polo team as the Pirates were upset by Grossmont College, 13-12 in overtime on Friday at the Southern California Regional Championships held at Cerritos College.

The No. 3-seed Pirates (20-6) battled the No. 6-seed Griffins (24-4) back and forth the entire match. Trailing 7-6 heading into the fourth and final quarter, both teams found their offensive touch, but it was Coast, who managed to force OT with a six-goal quarter.

However, those would be the final goals of the season as the Griffins regained the lead with a goal in the first OT period and did not allow the Pirates a goal the rest of the way.

Colby Watson led the Pirates with four goals, while Austin Wing and Scott Brush each chipped in three. Solo tallies were turned in by Gavin Wright and Dillon Avilia.

Jorge Perez-Romero led the Griffins with eight goals as they move on to the regional semifinals.
