Pirates make history with 28-10 win over Fullerton

COSTA MESA -- It was a history-making victory for the Orange Coast College men's water polo team as the Pirates racked up a school-record 28 goals on Wednesday in a 28-10 win over visiting Fullerton College.

The 28 goals scored for Coast were the most scored by OCC in recent memory. According to the historical binders, the Pirates scored 26 goals against Mt. San Antonio on Oct. 15, 1982, but over the past 37 years, no Pirate team has scored more than that ... until Wednesday.

The Pirates (11-4, 4-0) found the scoresheet five times on their first five shots and jumped out to a 9-1 lead through the opening quarter. OCC outscored the Hornets (11-10, 2-3) in each of the next three quarters as well and cruised to victory.

Leading the way for the Pirates was Ryan Baumann, who scored seven times and added four assists to go along with a team-best five steals. Andrej Maodus added five goals, four assists and four steals, while Nicolas Fichman scored five times and dished out three assists.

In goal, the combo of Connor Halloran and Parsa Pakdel combined for nine saves for OCC.

For the Hornets, Niam Schrade had five goals, while Niko Vaccher contributed four goals.

OCC will host conference co-leader Golden West (14-3, 4-0) on Wednesday, beginning at 3 p.m.
