Pirates walk off Tigers with 5-4 win

COSTA MESA -- The right arm of Ashlee Kean and the bat of Gillian Gordon was just enough for the Orange Coast College softball team to slip past visiting Riverside City College, 5-4 in eight innings, on Monday at the OCC Softball Complex.

OCC (18-20, 10-13 in the Orange Empire Conference) led 4-0 early, sparked by the hot hitting of shortstop Taylor Andolsek, who finished the afternoon 4-for-4. Her two-run double to left-center helped put the Pirates ahead by a pair in the bottom of the first.

Julia Douglass came through with an RBI-single in the bottom of the second to make it 3-0 and Gianna Gozo lifted a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the third to make it 4-0.

That gave Kean a bit of breathing room as she mowed down Tiger after Tiger early on. In fact, her third strikeout of the game gave the freshman 100 for the season as she finished off her complete-game performance with 13 strikeouts to earn her 11th win of the season.

The Tigers managed to find some success in the middle innings and scored a run in the fourth and tacked on three more in the fifth to tie things up at 4. Sophia Franco-Colis was RCC's top hitter with a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored and an RBI.

It stayed in a 4-4 deadlock into extra innings. In the top of the 10th, Kean struck out the side before Gordon led off the bottom of the frame with a deep drive that found its way over the left-field fence for the game-winner ... her team-best fourth-home run of the season.

Coast will wrap up the regular season at home on Wednesday against Saddleback, beginning at 3 p.m.
