
Pirates keep on rolling with 99-52 win over Bobcats
MISSION VIEJO -- Six different players reached double digits on the scoresheet as the Orange Coast College women's basketball team cruised to a 99-52 Orange Empire Conference road win over Saddleback College on Tuesday night.
Leading all scorers for the Pirates (21-4, 8-1 in the OEC) was Melaiah Joseph with 24 points. The freshman standout also had nine rebounds and five assists.
Kayla Borgelt made the most of her 17 minutes of play with 17 points and four rebounds for Coast. Zoie Lamkin added 16 points, Alyssa Dreessen contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, Myia Collins earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds (as well as six assists) and Hailey Estrada contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
For the Bobcats (7-18, 0-9), Moanike'ala Scott led the way with 24 points, while Kalena Akinaka added 13 points.
The game was in OCC's control right from the opening whistle as the Pirates jumped out to a 30-9 advantage and never looked back. Coast made 38-of-73 shots from the floor (52.1%) to go along with 11-of-28 from 3-point land (39.3%) and 12-of-15 from the free-throw line (80%).
Coast dominated the boards, 49-22 and forced 16 Saddleback turnovers with their solid defensive effort.
The win puts the Pirates in great shape for another OEC title. At 8-1, the Pirates are now two losses ahead of both Cypress (7-3) and Fullerton (6-3), who lost on Tuesday to Santa Ana, 68-65.
The Pirates will return to action on Thursday against the Hornets, beginning at 6 p.m.
