Khin shoots a 69 to lead Pirates at El Prado

CHINO -- Moe Pyae Sone Khin shot a 3-under-par, 69 to lead the Orange Coast College women's golf team to a second-place team finish at Monday's Orange Empire Conference matchup on Monday at El Prado Golf Club.

The Pirates (16-4 overall) earned the runner-up spot among all OEC squads for the fourth week in a row with a team score of 312, just nine shots behind first-place Mt. San Antonio, who shot a combined score of 303. Close behind the Pirates was Cuyamaca College, who carded a 315, followed by Fullerton (379) and Mt. San Jacinto (402).

Khin's 69 is the lowest round among all Orange Empire Conference golfers and it's the first sub-70 score recorded for the conference through the first four matches of the 2024 OEC schedule. The OCC freshman standout had 11 pars, five birdies and only two bogeys on her impressive scorecard.

Jeanie Tahvildari carded a 78 for the Pirates, while teammate Delylah Collins was a shot back with a 79, followed by Sophia Tipton (86), Lillian Thurston (88) and Taylor Tuxford (89). Coast was the only school in the OEC field to have all six golfers shoot under 90 for their round, showing the depth and consistency of head coach Sean Collins' squad.

Coast will head up to the site of this year's 3C2A State Championships -- Nipomo's Monarch Dunes Golf Club -- for the North/South Invitational, which takes place on Sunday at 12 p.m.
