Pirates remain unbeaten with 8-1 win over Fullerton
COSTA MESA -- The winning continues for the Orange Coast College women's tennis team as the Pirates rolled past visiting Fullerton, 8-1, on Tuesday at the OCC Tennis Complex.
In spite of a rare defeat No. 1 singles by Miri Inoue -- a three-set marathon against FC standout Yu Seung Suh (5-7, 6-4, 10-5 tiebreaker) -- the rest of the Pirates picked up their leader with straight-set wins, including Shayee Sherif (6-0, 6-1), Nicole Knickerbocker (6-0, 6-0), Camryn Mason (6-0, 6-3), Claire Boettcher (6-1, 6-1) and Shannon Stone (6-1, 6-0).
In doubles, Inoue teamed up with Knickerbocker and returned the favor on Suh and playing partner Alexus Lombera with an 8-2 win in the No. 1 match. Sherif/Mason rolled to an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while at No. 3, Boettcher and Stone cruised to an 8-1 win.
Winners of 15 straight and 125-of-132 sets played, the undefeated Pirates will continue their Orange Empire Conference schedule on Thursday at home against Cypress, beginning at 2 p.m.
