Pirates capture OEC crown and perfect season with 9-0 win over Saddleback
MISSION VIEJO -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team wrapped up a perfect regular season with a 9-0 Orange Empire Conference win over host Saddleback College on Tuesday.
OCC is a perfect 18-0 heading into postseason play after capturing its fourth straight Orange Empire Conference title under head coach Chris Ketcham.
It was a quick afternoon of tennis for the Pirates as Miri Inoue (6-0, 6-0), Nicole Knickerbocker (6-1, 6-1), Claire Boettcher (6-3, 6-2), Shannon Stone (6-1, 6-0), Jackie Kaiser (6-0, 6-0) and Rosemary Magnuson (6-0, 6-0 default) cruised to victories in singles.
It was more of the same in doubles play as Inoue/Knickerbocker (8-1) and Camryn Mason/Shayee Sherif (8-0) took care of business for the Pirates, while the third doubles match was won by way of default.
Playoff seedings will be announced this weekend and the Pirates will look to host the first several rounds as a top seed in the tournament.
