Pirate ladies go 2-0 over Saddleback, Golden West

MISSION VIEJO -- The Orange Coast College women's track and field team picked up a pair of Orange Empire Conference wins over Saddleback (97-48) and Golden West (86-63) on Friday to improve to 5-1 overall.

The Pirates picked up four first-place performances against the rest of the field and leading the way was Taylor Sims, who earned the top spot in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 26.67 seconds.

Sims also joined up with Decontee Ayers, Mycol Smith-Ray and Hannah Fleming in the 400-meter relay and won the event with a time of 51.34.

Fellow sprinter Fatima Javadi Tabarroki edged out teammate Ayers in the 100, posting a winning time of 13.73, just ahead of Ayers' 13.76.

In the 1,500, distance runner Jenessa Reyes outlasted Saddleback's Xiomara Jimenez to take the top spot with a time of 5:06.39, just ahead of Jimenez's 5:07.68.

The Pirates will now take the week off from competition and return to action on Friday, March 6 at the Cal State Los Angeles Invitation, beginning at 9 a.m.
