Allen leads Pirates to impressive team score at Brubaker Invitational

ORANGE -- Led by a strong, third-place performance by freshman Alyssa Allen, the Orange Coast College women's cross country team earned a fourth-place team score at Friday's Brubaker Invitational, held at Irvine Park.

The Pirates recorded a team score of 107, behind only Cerritos (45), Palomar (89) and Saddleback (99), while El Camino (122), Santa Ana (124), Santiago Canyon (164), Long Beach (168) and Fullerton (173) completed the team scores.

Allen took on the 5K course and came in with a time of 20 minutes, 16.5 seconds, topped only by Santa Ana's Toni Lopez (19:19.2) and Cerritos' Marylu Pulido (20:14.8).

Close behind Allen was fellow OCC freshman Kirsten McCracken, who placed eighth with a time of 20:54.6.

All racers for the Pirates finished in the top-40, including Rebecca Ross (21st, 21:58.2), Alicia Carbajal (37th, 23:44.7), Jennifer Romero (38th,23:44.7) and Tarah Buckels (40th, 23:46.9). 

The Pirates will travel up to Santa Clara and compete in the Santa Clara Invitational on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m.
