Coast women take fourth overall at Bronco Invitational

SANTA CLARA -- The Orange Coast College women's cross country team used a strong team effort to place fourth overall at the 2015 Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Coast finished with a team score of 121 points, trailing only UC Santa Cruz (64), Arizona's Emery Riddle University (118) and El Paso Community College (119).

Once again, the Pirates were led by the strong running of freshman Alyssa Allen, who blazed through the 5K course with a fifth-place time of 22 minutes, 28.7 seconds. Janessa Reyes clocked in with a 23:11.9 (14th place among team/club runners), while Bethani Heising placed 21st with a time of 23:29.8.

Other solid OCC times were turned in by Karen Ortiz (24:23), Rebecca Ross (24:24.1), Daysi Vazquez (25:25.2) and Jennifer Romero (25:27.2).

The Pirates will return to action on Friday up at Cal State Fullerton for the 2015 Titan Invitational, beginning at 4 p.m.
