Olson sets the pace for Pirate women at Vanguard Invitational

ORANGE -- The Orange Coast College women's cross country team fared well at the Vanguard Invitational on Friday at Irvine Park as the Pirates took on several four-year programs and finished eighth overall.

Pirate freshman Emily Olson led the way for the Pirates as she conquered the 5K course at Irvine Park with a 26th-place time of 19 minutes, 20.9 seconds. Her time was the fastest among California Community College runners in a field filled with four-year runners.

Kaila Gindlesperger finished 39th overall with a time of 19:51.2, while the trio of Skyler Madrid (20:06.5), Angelica Mateo (21:58.1) and Alize Segura (24:10.2) also picked up valuable points for the Pirates. Freshman Morgan Novak also notched a solid time of 25:25.7 for Coast.

OCC will return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Invitational, beginning at 5 p.m.
