Pirate women take third overall at OEC Championships

ORANGE -- Another solid performance for the Orange Coast College women's cross country team, as the Pirates used five top-25 finishes to place third overall at the 2019 Orange Empire Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday at Irvine Park.

Led by a fantastic 8th-place finish by freshman Emily Olson, the Pirates took third overall with 76 points, behind OEC champion Saddleback (27) and Riverside (31) and ahead of Santiago Canyon (126), Santa Ana (130) and Fullerton (134).

Olson conquered the 5K course with a time of 21 minutes, 40.1 seconds, less than a minute off the fastest time, held by Saddleback sophomore Dana McGrath (20:54).

Skyler Madrid finished 13th overall with a time of 22:05.6, while Kaila Gindlesperger (22:26), Gabriela Delgado (23:21.9) and Meagan Silves (23:23.6) also earned points for the Pirates for their strong performances.

Other solid Coast times were turned in by Kelsey Withers (23:44.3), Angelica Mateo (25:05.2) and Alize Segura (27:17.4).

The Pirates will next compete at the 2019 Southern California Regional Championships on Friday at Mission Bay in San Diego, beginning at 10 a.m.
