Pirates complete sweep with 9-1 win over Vikings

COSTA MESA -- The bats came alive early and often for the Orange Coast College baseball team as the Pirates completed a three-game sweep over visiting Long Beach City College with a 9-1 win on Friday afternoon at Wendell Pickens Field.

Coast (6-0) pounded out 16 hits, including six extra-base hits and two home runs, to lead the way to victory. David Morgan finished a triple shy of the cycle and went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Tyler Lasch added a double, home run, three runs and two RBI, while Ryan O'Halloran, Tommy Williams and Joey Fregosi had two hits each to go along with a combined two runs and four RBI.

The big inning for the Pirates came in the bottom of the third. Already leading, 2-0, the Pirates sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs on seven hits, highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Lasch and Morgan, followed by a double off the center-field wall by Javier Rosales.

That offensive support was more than enough for OCC starter Brenden Argomaniz, who picked up his first win of the season after throwing five scoreless innings, allowing four hits, one walk and five strikeouts. In the all, the Pirate pitching staff held the Vikings (2-6) to just six runs over 27 innings.

The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday at home against Palomar, beginning at 2 p.m.
