Pirates topple Eagles, advance to Super Regionals

COSTA MESA -- Skylar Limonchi went 5-for-6 with three runs and one RBI to lead the top-seeded Orange Coast College baseball team to a 10-3 win over L.A. Mission College in Game 2 of the Southern California Regional playoffs on Saturday at Wendell Pickens Field.

With the win, OCC (31-8-1) eliminates the 16th-seeded Eagles (23-18) and advances to next week's Super Regional, where they will host the lowest remaining seed in another best-of-three series. Game 1 will take place on Friday at 2 p.m., with the Game 2 set for Saturday at 11 a.m.

Seven different Pirates had multi-hit games, including Tyler Lasch (2-for-5, one run, three RBI), Murphy Stehly (2-5, one run, two RBI), Todd Jackson (2-4, two runs), Adam Serrano (2-5, one run, one RBI), Jacob Gentry (2-5, two RBI) and Tommy Williams (2-3, two walks, one run, one RBI).

OCC reliever Ben Davis (5-3) picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts over four innings after taking over for starter Miles Sandum (four innings, two runs, three hits). Davis Delorefice struck out three in the ninth to finish things up.

As the "visiting" team in this game, OCC took its first at-bats and put up three runs to take the lead right from the get-go. Back-to-back singles by Limonchi and Williams and a walk to Delorefice loaded the bases with nobody out. After a double play put runners on the corners, Stehly came through with a run-scoring single to score Limonchi, putting Coast up, 1-0. Gentry followed with a line-drive single to right to score Stehly and Delorefice, giving the Pirates a 3-0 advantage.

L.A. Mission scored a run in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1, but from there, OCC kept tacking on runs over the next four frames to lead 8-2 after five innings.

In the two games, OCC outscored the Eagles, 18-4 and outhit them, 30-14.
