Pirates wrap up season with loss to Hornets

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College football team wrapped up the 2013 season with a 63-21 Southern Conference loss to top-ranked Fullerton College on Saturday night at LeBard Stadium.
The unbeaten Hornets (9-0, 5-0 in conference) scored two touchdowns the first two times they touched the ball, grabbing control of the game and never letting go.
Lavorrie Johnson took the opening kickoff 82 yards for a Fullerton College touchdown, and, after the Pirates punted the ball back to the Hornets, Johnson again found the end zone on a 48-yard touchdown run.
The Pirates (3-7, 1-5) managed some successful drives against the Hornet defense, but a missed field goal and an interception inside the FC's end zone kept the lead comfortable for the guests.
The Hornets had the ball for seven drives in the first half and scored all seven times to take a 49-7 lead at the half. Jose Escobar was a perfect 9-for-9 for 191 yards and two touchdowns for the Hornets, while Ryan Byrd ran for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 10 carries.
OCC's lone first-half score came on a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cameron Biedgoly (18-of-27, 155 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions) to A.J. Holman (five catches, 53 yards) early in the second quarter.
Both teams scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half with the Hornets comfortably out in front.
OCC's Jon Newsom (8-of-10, 158 yards, two TDs) connected with Darren Hambrick on a 38-yard touchdown in the third quarter, then, connected with Brandon Guillory on a 43-yard tochdown strike late in the fourth quarter to wrap things up for the Pirates' season.
Larenzo Williams finished the game with 177 all-purpose yards (51 rushing, 27 receiving, 99 return yards), while Shane Baumann anchored the defense with nine tackles (five solo) for the Pirates.
