Pirates end regular season with impressive win at Riverside

RIVERSIDE -- In a gym that's NEVER easy to win at, the Orange Coast College men's basketball team pulled away from host Riverside City College and wrapped up the regular season with a 64-48 Orange Empire Conference win on Tuesday night.

The Pirates, champions of the Orange Empire Conference and ranked eighth in the state, had nothing to play for on Tuesday night, but don't tell head coach Steve Spencer that as he had his players ready to play against the rival Tigers (15-10, 6-5 in conference).

Coast (20-7, 11-1) trailed 35-33 early in the second half before using an 18-6 run to grab the lead for good. Joshua Davis and Lloyd Wright each had 15 points, while Jumoke Walker added 14 points and five assists. Kupaa Harrison grabbed a team-best nine rebounds to go along with nine points.

For the Tigers, Jordan Robinson led the way with 17 points, while Kane Daniels added 16 points, but 23 RCC turnovers proved too much to overcome.

For now, the Pirates have the next several days to rest and practice as they end the regular season schedule with a bye before the Southern California Regional playoff seedings are announced this weekend. Winners of 11 straight and 18-of-20, the Pirates will most likely host their first-round matchup. Log on to www.occpirateathletics.com for the latest playoff information as it becomes available.
