Pirates pull out overtime win over L.A. Southwest

LOS ANGELES -- Jonathan Ileleji scored 32 points, including seven in overtime to lead the Orange Coast College men's basketball team to an 86-84 OT win over host L.A. Southwest College on Thursday night.

Ileleji, who went 11-of-20 from the floor and nailed six 3-pointers along the way, helped OCC (2-7) rally from a three-point deficit in the final 90 seconds of overtime. Trailing 82-79, Ileleji drove to the lane, scored and was fouled on the play. After making his free throw, OCC drew even at 82 with 1:24 remaining.

LASW (2-6) scored with 54 seconds left on a made layup by Isaiah Hawk, but on OCC's next possession, Ileleji took a pass from Myles Woods and buried a clutch 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining, putting the Pirates up, 85-84.

The host Cougars had a chance to regain the led with nine seconds left when LASW's Jamaal Logan was fouled and sent to the line, but he missed both free throws and another made FT by Ileleji pushed OCC's advantage to 86-84. The Cougars had one final chance to even things up, but David Iwowari's jumper at the buzzer missed its mark.

Ileleji finished with seven rebounds, three assists and four steals to go along with his 32 points, while Woods added 18 points and Andres Ortega tossed in 15. For the Cougars, Hawk and Bryan Mayfield each had 16 points, while Clayshaun Penn added 15.

OCC returns to action on Friday at Miramar College, beginning at 5 p.m. OCC's next home game will be on Wednesday, Jan. 8 against Saddleback, beginning at 7 p.m.
