Cold starts doom Pirates in loss to Dons

COSTA MESA -- The "home cooking" was not to be found on Wednesday night as the Orange Coast College men's basketball team lost to visiting Santa Ana, 75-47, inside the Peterson Gym.

OCC struggled in the opening minutes of each half as the Dons jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the game's first seven minutes, then, used a 20-0 run over the opening seven minutes of the second half to pull away from the Pirates.

Jonathan Ileleji led OCC with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Andres Ortega added 14 points and seven boards. Myles Woods chipped in 12 points, but the Pirates struggled shooting throughout the night (27.6 percent), while the SAC press helped induce 21 OCC turnovers.

For the Dons, Jalani Horn led the way with 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Ronald Ellison and Ramon Lopez each had 13 points.

OCC returns to action on Friday at home against Santiago Canyon, beginning at 5 p.m.
