Pirates rally, but fall short in OT to Dons

COSTA MESA -- It was a dogfight all the way down to the final whistle, but in the end, the Orange Coast College men's basketball team saw its bid for a comeback win fall short as the Pirates fell to Santa Ana College in overtime, 82-76, on Friday, inside the Peterson Gym.

The Pirates managed to overcome a 13-point deficit and claw their way all the way back in the final minutes of regulation. Down by four, Cade Myers nailed a 3-pointer to get the Pirates to within a point of the Dons, 65-64 and after SAC's Jackson Brennan went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line, Chris Obiajulu took a Myers pass and made a game-tying layup with 14 seconds remaining to even the score at 66.

Santa Ana missed its next shot and in the final seconds of regulation, Coast had a chance to steal a victory at the buzzer but a missed layup and tip-in sent the game into overtime.

The Dons took control of the extra frame right away when a basket by Camron Swist and a 3-pointer by Brennan put the Dons up 71-66 less than 40 seconds into the OT session. Santa Ana would not trail the rest of the way.

Ronnie Davis led Coast with 24 points, while Obiajulu added 15 points to go along with six rebounds and five steals. Julian Daaboul tossed in 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. For the Dons, Mac West led the way with 19 points, while Brennan added 18 points and Kamaury Washington contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Coast will return to action on Wednesday at home against Saddleback College, beginning at 5 p.m.
