Davis' big night spoiled by Hawks

COSTA MESA -- If Wednesday night was the final home game in the career of Ronnie Davis, he went out with a bang, scoring 33 points with four rebounds and four assists, but it wasn't enough as the Orange Coast College men's basketball team fell to visiting Santiago Canyon, 106-82, inside the Peterson Gym.

There was just too much firepower for the high-scoring Hawks (20-5 overall, 10-2 in the Orange Empire Conference), who made 17-of-34 3-pointers and shot over 50% from the floor (37-of-71) en route to their 106-point outburst.

The Pirates fell behind by as many as 27 points, but fought back and got to within 11 midway through the second half, thanks in large part to the offensive performance from Davis, who went 10-of-17 from the floor, 4-of-8 from 3-point range and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line for his third game of 30-or-more points this season. Davis had 36 points on Nov. 22 against L.A. City College and 33 in the season-opener against San Mateo.

Coast will wrap up the regular season on the road for the final two games, beginning on Friday at Irvine Valley College, beginning at 6 p.m.
