Pirates breeze past Fullerton, 9-0

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team snapped a mild two-match losing streak with an impressive 9-0 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Fullerton College on Thursday.

The Pirates (7-2 overall, 1-1 in OEC) went a perfect 12-for-12 in singles sets, led by No. 3 player, Darren Dinh, who cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Elmer Van Butselaar dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win, while other singles wins were turned in by John Lieu (6-2, 6-1), Chris Chiu (7-6, 6-3), Peter Hariri (6-1, 6-3) and Ross Ewart (6-1, 6-1).

In doubles, the Pirates continued their strong play, losing just three games while picking up three more wins. Lieu and Dinh won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, Van Butselaar and Hariri won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2 and Chiu and Anthony Thai sweeped their way to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

Coast will continue OEC play at Cypress on Tuesday (2 p.m.) before returning home to play Irvine Valley on Thursday (2 p.m.).
