Men's Tennis starting strong for Pirates

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team is off to a strong start, thanks to a 5-1 record to kick off the 2016 season. The Pirates' most recent success came on Friday with a 7-2 win over visiting Imperial Valley.

In singles play, Kevin Springer (6-4, 6-3), Sergio Andrew Palacio (6-1, 6-2), Ho Kiu Tam (6-1, 6-2), Phillip Vu (6-2, 6-3) and Jaime Sabate (6-2, 6-0) each cruised to straight-set wins, while in doubles, the teams of Springer/Tam (8-6) and Vu/Hongze Fan (8-4) also earned victories for the Pirates.

In addition to the win over Imperial Valley, Coast opened the season with a 9-0 win over Victor Valley before following up with 7-2 wins over San Diego City and Palomar. Coast fell to Mt. San Antonio, 6-3, but bounced back with a 9-0 win over El Camino, prior to Friday's victory.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at home against Bakersfield, beginning at 2 p.m.
