Pirates roll to 9-0 win over Bakersfield
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team made quick work of visiting Bakersfield College, sweeping the Renegades, 9-0, in a nonconference matchup on Friday.
All six players for the Pirates (6-1) cruised to straight-set wins, including Tam Duong (6-4, 6-2), Elmer van Butselaar (6-2, 6-2), Kevin Springer (6-2, 6-1), Sergio Andres Palacio (6-1, 6-4), Ho Kiu Tam (6-1, 6-2) and Phillip Vu (6-2, 6-2).
In doubles, it was more of the same as teams of Springer/van Butselaar (8-6), Duong/Palacio (8-4) and Tam/Vu (8-6) all pulled victories for OCC.
The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday when they open Orange Empire Conference play on the road against the Riverside City College Tigers, beginning at 2 p.m. Coast will return home to take on Saddleback on Thursday, also at 2 p.m.
