Pirates wrap up OEC with win at Cypress before falling to IVC

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a win at Cypress College on Thursday (8-1) before falling to Irvine Valley (8-1) on Tuesday, putting the Pirates in second place in the final Orange Empire Conference standings.

In the win over the Chargers, Coast was led in singles play by Elmer van Butselaar (6-0, 6-1), Kevin Springer (6-2, 6-1), Sergio Andres Palacio (6-0, 6-1), Jaime Sabate (6-0, 6-0) and Logan Akers (6-1, 6-3). In doubles, it was a clean sweep for the Pirates as the teams of van Butselaar/Springer (8-1), Palacio/Alex Shakas (8-0) and Sebate/Akers (8-1) cruised to victories.

OCC finishes the regular season with an overall record of 15-4, 7-3 in the OEC and the Pirates will begin postseason play at the 2016 Orange Empire Conference Championships, held at Riverside City College, on Saturday, April 9.
