Pirates return to win column with 7-2 win over Gauchos

COSTA MESA -- After a rough 5-4 loss to Riverside to start Orange Empire Conference play, the Orange Coast College men's tennis team returned to the "win" column with a 7-2 win over visiting Saddleback on Thursday.

Coast (7-2, 1-1 in OEC) grabbed a 4-2 lead after singles play, with strong wins coming from Tam Duong (6-1, 6-3), Kevin Springer (6-2, 6-0), Sergio Andres Palacio (7-5, 6-2) and Phillip Vu (6-1, 7-5).

The strong play continued in doubles as the Pirates rolled to wins in all three sets, led by the teams of Springer/Elmer van Butselaar (8-5), Duong/Palacio (8-0) and Vu/Ho Kiu Tam (8-5).

The Pirates will return to conference action at Fullerton College on Tuesday, beginning at 2 p.m. Coast's next home match will be on Thursday against Cypress, also at 2 p.m.
