Warner breaks 40-year-old school record for Pirates at Cerritos Invitational
NORWALK -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team competed in the 2016 Cerritos Invitational and the Pirates put forth several quality times, including a record-breaking performance by freshman Gabe Warner.
Warner competed in several events for the Pirates, but in the 100-meter dash, the Woodbridge HS grad eclipsed a 40-year-old school record when he crossed the finish line with a time of 10.52 seconds. His time topped the old mark of 10.54, set by Paul Desmet all the way back in 1976.
Warner continued his impressive day by topping an impressive field and winning the 200 with a time of 21.22.
It was a 1-2 finish for the Pirates in the 5,000 as the duo of Galyn Nash (1st, 15:32.24) and Danny Dominguez (2nd, 15:37.89) topped the rest of the field by more than 20 seconds.
In the 400 hurdles, sophomore standout Noah Rogers led from start to finish with a time of 55.71 seconds. He was the lone sub-minute performance as Riverside's Matthew Cleland placed second with a time of 1:00.04.
The success of the Pirates was not limited to individual performances as the 1,600 relay team of Kyle Fegan, Jeremiah Lewis, Eamon Smythe and Rogers edgued out Cal State Los Angeles for a winning time of 3:19.06.
The Pirates will take the weekend off and prepare for the Orange Empire Conference championships. The OEC prelims will take place at OCC on Friday, April 22 at 10 a.m., with the finals set for Friday, April 29 at OCC, also at 10 a.m.
