Warner caps off solid first season for Pirates

SAN DIEGO -- Gabe Warner, Orange Coast College men's track and field freshman standout, competed in three events at last weekend's California Community College Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships, capping off a solid first year with the Pirates.

The Woodbridge HS grad began with the 400-meter relay, where he joined teammates David Dambre, Jonathan Clayborne and Tommy Duong and helped Coast finish eighth in the state finals with a time of 42.25 seconds.

From there, Warner took on the state's best in the 400, an event where last week, he broke OCC's 49-year-old record with a time of 47.5 at the Southern California Regional prelims, then, in the finals, topped that mark with a time of 47.05. At the State Meet, Warner fought hard and finished fourth overall with a time of 47.73.

Last but not least, Warner returned to the track and competed in the 200, where he finished seventh in the state with a time of 21.57.

Another OCC qualifier, sophomore Eamon Smythe competed in the 800 and finished eighth in the state with a time of 1:56.47.
